ICE operations are illegal. Our borders must be protected — but not in the way we are doing it. Only suspected hardened criminals should be sought and arrested.

We must also develop a sound, greatly enlarged, and constitutionally appropriate system, consistent with American values, to process refugees at our borders and in our cities.

We all know tens of millions of undocumented persons are in the United States. Generally, they are family-oriented people, well integrated in our society and communities, who support their families and contribute to us all economically. We must find a respectful, legal way to integrate law-abiding undocumented persons in the U.S. — one that also protects our borders. Employers are part of the equation. And we must provide Dreamers a pathway to citizenship.
